Innovate Finance joins Boris Johnson’s trade mission to America

Innovate Finance has joined the fintech delegation of Boris Johnson’s trade mission to America.

The trade body is responsible for promoting and growing the fintech sector and joins a week-long mission organised by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and The London Mayor’s Export Programme.

Among the fintech startups selected for the trip are Innovate Finance members Azimo, Derivitec, Digital Shadows, Elliptic Essentia Analytics, Fundapps, Iwoca, Prophis Technologies, Remitia, Sybenetix and Zopa. It’s hoped the mission will grow trade links between London and New York.

Showcasing talent

Claire Cockerton, CEO of Innovate Finance and London Tech Ambassador said the trip was a great chance for the trade body and other members of the delegation to “showcase the world-leading fintech ecosystem we’ve created in the UK.”

Britain’s fintech sector generates £20bn in annual revenue and over 44,000 people work in the sector in London alone – more than both Silicon Valley and New York.

Ongoing week of events

Commenting on the launch of the mission, Cockerton said:

“Critical to our sector’s success is international trade and investment ties, with other centres of excellence in Finance”

“We strongly believe that fintech is a valuable proposition for the global marketplace and has the potential to improve not only the way we bank and do business, but who is included and the value for money people receive from financial products and services.”

The mission kicked off in Boston and will also see delegates visit both New York and Washington DC. London & Partners will host a networking drinks reception this week in New York along with many of the stars of our Making it in New York, our first documentary shot in 2014.
