Elevator Pitch 2016: The judges


We’re delighted to announced the judges for the Elevator Pitch LIVE 2016 – our flagship competition to find the UK’s top tech talent.

This year’s competition will start off with a bang on Wednesday 9th November, as 25 startups descend on Rich Mix in London’s Shoreditch to pitch in front of our expert judging panel and a live audience.

The judges will be as follows:

Emily Spaven, editor at Tech City News. She was previously managing editor at FinTech publication CoinDesk. Spaven has also worked for Google and a FinTech startup, so has first-hand experience of both ends of the tech company spectrum.


Dan Bailey, is part of the investment team at MMC Ventures, an active investor and award-winning venture capital fund, focusing on sectors where the UK is a world leader. Dan’s main areas of interest are B2B technology and marketplaces, in particular the consumerisation of enterprise software, machine learning, AI and the API Economy.


Eeswaran Navaratnam is a startup advisor and investor at 01 Ventures, a VC fund based in London, investing in European early stage companies developing deep technological solutions. 01Ventures is also an active investor, where leading experts work very closely with their portfolio on commercialising and scaling their product via their Startup Studio.


Maria Wagner is responsible for sourcing investments, executing deals and monitoring portfolio companies at Beringea. She was previously managing director of Birchbox UK. Prior to this, she was on the investment teams at Virgin Group and GMT Partners, where she made investments and monitored portfolio companies, mainly in the digital and media sectors.


Michael Spalter is an experienced business angel and early stage investor, with his earliest investments within the tech space made in 2002. Later investments have been far more diverse, covering FinTec, MedTech, green tech, hospitality, e-commerce and employment. Michael remains CEO of DrayTek, one of Europe’s leading producers of networking products for the SME market and was a founding partner at Vestra Wealth (sold in 2016). Spalter was the seed investor for Infinity SDC, one of Europe’s leading data center providers.
