It’s been another exiting week in UK tech … here’s your weekly round up of startup competitions, awards, co-working space and accelerator news.

Elevator Pitch LIVE 2016 winners

Awards were presented last night at a ceremony with the shortlisted companies, our sponsors and the Tech City News team.

Over 200 startups applied, and the competition was tough, but after much deliberation the winners from each category are as follows:

CyLon cohort

Cyber London has announced the eight new promising startups participating in its fourth cohort.

The full list of new startups taking part is below, and applications are now also open for the CyLon Spring 2017 intake.

  • AppsPicket –  two-factor authentication for web applications
  • Codified Security – mobile app security testing
  • Conatix – applies recent advances in AI to enterprise knowledge management and cybersecurity
  • Drie – PaaS enabling users to build, deploy and scale apps in the cloud with Amazon Web Services
  • MyDocSafe – secure on-boarding and e-signature platform
  • NetToken – a control panel for all your digital accounts enabling users to share access to digital accounts without revealing log-in information
  • ThreatInformer – advanced automated security risk assessments to improve the profitability of cyber insurers
  • VChain – blockchain technology designed to solve digital identity fraud, consumer privacy and data security issues

DigitalBridge wins £100k

Manchester based business DigitalBridge has received a £100,000 grant.

The investment comes after an instore trial with John Lewis as part of the accelerator programme, and according to CEO David Levine, will allow the company to accelerate its growth and development.

“This is a major boost and a real vote of confidence for DigitalBridge from one of the biggest retailers in the world,” he said. “This investment will allow us to accelerate our ongoing recruitment process and invest more in research and development in computer vision and deep learning for the retail sector.”

ActiveLab cohort

ActiveLab has unveiled the names of the 12 startups joining it accelerator.

imovesdance – Online tools to get kids active in school and home

Connected Fitness Labs – An app breaking down the four walls of the gym by supporting a health club operator to become a true fitness brand by offering digital support to consumers

EveryMatch International – A white-label mobile Software as a Service (SaaS) solution for building fitness member communities

Gymetrix – The company attaches sensors to gym equipment to measure customers usage of the equipment and then use the data to optimise operators equipment purchasing

Shapelog – Described as ‘Fitbit for strength training’

Amaven – An online platform to help measure, track and improve the physical development of everyone through fundamental movement skills and sports skills.

iPrescribe Exercise – An app that uses an algorithm to provide the user with an automated activity programme.

LiveSmart – UK wide, dynamic, evidence based health assessment and improvement programmes

Stepjockey – Smart signs and gamification platform to enable employers to quickly make their buildings healthier and more active

VRGO Chair – An active chair that can be used for movement within virtual reality

Open Play – Online booking system and marketplace for sports facilities and activities

Silverfit – Weekly fun and fitness sessions for older people

Norwich Sync The City winner

Pantry, an AI-powered smart shopping list platform, was crowned the winner at Norwich Sync The City over the weekend.

The team spent 54 hours working on a prototype demo that combined product data (supplied by BrandBank) artificial intelligence tech (supplied by Rainbird) in a smart platform.   Pantry can manage your grocery shopping list via the Amazon echo but also recommend, learn (because of the Rainbird cognitive reasoning tech) and remind you of what products you should be buying.

Hectic Help, an idea to help report and stop bullying, won the People’s Choice. which is an idea to help report and stop bullying.
