Welcome to your Week in Tech – a roundup of the week’s top technology news.

This week, we bring you Preservica’s £3m round, QinetiQ’s £57.5m acquisition, the $350m round raised by a Dubai-based taxi hailing app and a download to get you into the Christmas spirit.

Watch the video, or read on, for all this and more.

Investments

In investment news, Preservica, a digital preservation tech startup, raised £3m. Based in Oxfordshire, the firm’s software helps organisations safeguard and future-proof digital information.

Hampshire-based QinetiQ acquired Meggitt Target Systems for £57.5m. QinetiQ is a defence technology and security company with over 6,000 employees worldwide.

Best of British

Nomad Digital, a railway TravelTech provider from Newcastle, has been acquired by Alstom for an undisclosed sum. Alstom is currently in the process of building a new rail technology centre in the North West of England.

International story

Overseas, Careem, a taxi hailing app headquartered in Dubai, raised a whopping $350m. Valuing the startup at $1bn, the round drew support from Saudi Telecom Company and Japanese e-commerce firm Rakuten.

Download

Our download of the week is The Snow Fox, a story that comes to life as it’s read aloud. Perfect for little ones this Christmas, the app’s illustrations animate in sync to the reader’s voice, creating an interactive and personalised story experience.

And Finally…

And finally, it might not be a new tool, but it’s an old favourite of ours. Google’s Santa Tracker allows you to count down the precious minutes until his departure, then watch as he travels the world delivering presents. Not long to wait now!

That’s it for this week’s episode, so it’s goodbye from us and a very Merry Christmas! To stay up-to-date with technology news in the new year, visit subscribe now and follow us on Twitter.
